A dedication to study and live presentation
The Grand Feature Film Orchestra is a unique and versatile ensemble dedicated to presenting multimedia presentations of the best of the cinematic arts that are both educational and entertaining. Every year, we develop and build on our repertoire. We present films and music that have been meticulously studied, arranged, restored, and performed live in movie theaters throughout the West Coast. It's an exciting collaboration of both sight and sound.

FEATURE FILMS --
These are feature-length movies that span decades of cinematic history and magic from the lavish silent era to early sound favorites. It's all done with a LIVE orchestra in the theater!


The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926) – (fantasy adventure) A brave prince goes on a quest to seek the heart of a princess.
Legendary German film animator Lotte Reiniger created a beloved masterpiece, and the oldest surviving animated feature movie.


The Hitch-Hiker (1953) – (drama thriller) Two friends on a road trip take on a hitchhiker, only to be held hostage in a deadly game of survival. This is a classic in film noir, written and directed by the great Ida Lupino.


House on Haunted Hill (1959) – (horror) The ultimate survivor movie! An eccentric millionaire offers guests $10,000.00 each if they survive the night in a haunted mansion. Vincent Price gives a chilling performance in this influential thriller! Presented in Scent-o-Vision and Emergo-Esque.


Little Shop of Horrors (1960) – (comedy thriller) A hapless flower shop worker creates a man-eating plant that brings him fame at a huge cost! It's the Roger Corman original 1960 classic camp movie. Presented in Scent-o-Vision.


The Lost World (1925) – (action adventure) Professor Challenger leads a team to bring back evidence of living dinosaurs. Willis H. O'Brien's masterpiece of stop-motion effects creates realistic prehistoric dinosaurs in this thrilling action adventure with a live orchestra and sound effects team! Presented in Partici-Rama.


Peter Pan (1924) – (fantasy adventure) James Barrie's classic story comes to life with surprising special effects and spirited performances. Presented in Partici-Rama.


Plan 9 from Outer Space (1957) – (drama/unintentional comedy sci-fi) Alien police from outer space seek to force the Earth to change its violent ways by raising a zombie attack! This infamous 1957 comedy full-length feature movie classic wasn't intended to be funny, but we think it's loads of fun! Presented in Scent-o-Vision!


Safety Last (1923) – (comedy/adventure) This is his comic masterpiece! Considered one of the three legendary comedians of the 1920s, Harold Lloyd will thrill you with his death-defying stunts filmed in an age without digital effects. Safety Last is a funny and stunning film!


Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964) – (comedy/adventure) The children of Mars are sad, so their planet's leader goes to Earth to capture Santa and force him to bring the Christmas spirit to the Martians. But Santa has other plans.
Silly but endearing, this strange sci-fi gem was popular when it was first released in 1964. It has everything you'd expect from a space adventure produced on a shoestring budget in the 1960s, including funny acting, ridiculous special effects, great music, and lots of laughs! Sherlock Junior (1924) – (comedy/adventure) A movie theater projectionist dreams of being a detective! He gets more than he bargained for! Starring Buster Keaton with stunning special effects and stunts! It's comedy at its best! Original score by Evan Losoya! Presented in Air-o-Rama pneumatic sound effects.


Steamboat Bill Junior (1928) – (comedy/adventure) A hardened riverboat captain meets his estranged son and attempts to teach him how to be a proper shipman. Keaton's last independent film is one of his funniest. The legendary comic filmmaker does some of his most death-defying stunts with humor and class that only Buster Keaton could accomplish! In addition, the film features a brilliant score by Evan Losoya! Presented in Air-o-Rama pneumatic sound effects.


Suddenly (1954) – (drama thriller) Frank Sinatra proves his acting skills with his first and only villainous portrayal of an undercover “secret service agent” with a chilling plan.


Sunrise (1927) – (drama) An evil woman seduces a farmer to murder his wife and flee to the city. This Oscar-winning masterwork is a story of suspense, loss, and redemption—an original live score composed by Evan Losoya. Prewsented in Air-o-Rama pneumatic sound effects.


Teenagers from Outer Space (1959) - (drama/unintentional comedy sci-fi) Alien interplanetary teenage ranchers in flying saucers come to Earth to raise their man-eating monster lobster herd. That's right!! Gigantic lobsters threaten all of humanity! This 1959 infamous low-budget cult sci-fi classic is loads of fun. Presented in Scent-o-Vision!


Thief of Bagdad (1924) - (fantasy/adventure) A lowly thief faces harrowing adventures to win the love of a princess. Douglas Fairbanks stars in this lavish adaptation of 1001 Arabian Nights. Noted for beautiful cinematography, expert stunt work, and thrilling storytelling.


Wings (1927)—(action adventure) Starring Clara Bow, this love triangle soon turns into an adventure in the skies during the First World War. The stunning action sequences hold up to some of the best air stunt work today! First Academy winner for “Best Picture.”
SHORT FILMS --
The GFFO can perform these "one-reel" and “two-reel” gems as a beginning short "featurette," or they can be assembled into three or four movie feature sets. These are great for film festivals! Of course, all movies feature a LIVE orchestra!


The Arctic Giant - Superman (1942) – (adventure animation) A prehistoric dinosaur comes to life and threatens the city. Can Superman save the day? The ground-breaking animators Dave and Max Fleischer wrote and directed the film.


A Corny Concerto (1943) – (comedy animation) Two funny and beautifully animated stories based on the music of Johann Strauss. It is considered the first outing of Daffy Duck and features Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, and Elmer Fudd.


The Bulleteers - Superman (1942) – (adventure animation) Criminals with a deadly rocketship hold the city hostage. Can Superman save the day? The ground-breaking animators Dave and Max Fleischer wrote and directed the film.


Land Beyond the Sunset (1912) – (drama) In a fantasy storybook, a poor newspaper boy seeks refuge from his alcoholic grandmother. This is an early short Thomas Edison Studios production with surprising depth.


The Magnetic Telescope - Superman (1942) – (adventure animation) An out-of-control scientist creates a giant magnet to pull celestial bodies to the earth for study! The ground-breaking animators Dave and Max Fleischer wrote and directed the film.


Mechanical Monsters - Superman (1941) – (adventure animation) A scientist creates giant robots to steal treasures from the city. The ground-breaking animators Dave and Max Fleischer wrote and directed the film.


Tale of Two Kitties (1942) – (comedy animation) Two unlucky cats (one smart – one not so much) set out to make a meal of a poor, defenseless little bird known as Tweety. Little did they know, they were no match for the clever fowl.


A Trip to the Moon (1902) – (action adventure) A group of professors plan a trip to visit the moon and must escape from the moon monsters’ clutches! It was the first space science-fiction film ever made!


Charlie Chaplin's Mutual Films – (comedy) The GFFO has all 12 of Chaplin's most legendary comedies from his days at the Mutual Film Corporation. Most films presented in Air-o-Rama pneumatic sound effects.
