We don't mess around when selecting our music for a film. In the case of Teenagers from Outer Space, the movie needed a full score overhaul. We chose the works of Elgar's Enigma Variations, Schoenberg's Five Pieces for Orchestra, and Gershwin's An American in Paris to match the movie's sci-fi/Americana feel of the 1950s. Every minute of the film is studied, and appropriate music is composed and/or adapted from the great classics for every scene. The music is synchronized, re-edited, and orchestrated to match the film perfectly. These parts are arranged as separate musical works, called “cues,” and then given to the orchestra to perform. In the case of Teenagers from Outer Space, there are a whopping 60 cues!
The conductor follows the movie and directs the orchestra's speed, starting, and ending points to match each action on the screen. Because this is a live performance, it has to be right the first time, but The GFFO's students and professional musicians excel at live movie performances!
